What is this program all about?
BARTI (Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute) in partnership with Centre for Civil Society (CCS) has launched a vocational training program through Vikalp Vouchers. This project is also supported by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) and the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC). All members from Scheduled Castes, who are 18-30 years of age and are a resident of Maharashtra, are eligible to participate in this program which will be implemented initially in Mumbai and then extended to Pune.
What are Vikalp Vouchers?
a. A vikalp voucher is an instrument given to an individual, which enables him/her to obtain training from any training institute empanelled by BARTI.
b. 10% of the course fee or INR 2500/- whichever of the two is lesser is paid by the student while 90% of the amount is covered by the voucher which shall be paid by BARTI.
c. This will empower students to choose the institute which they believe provides the best training and a course which best suits their interests and aptitudes, rather than be limited to what’s on offer at other institutes.

The vouchers offer following benefits for students:
a. Empower students to select the best institute and course which meets their aspirations & interests.
b. The accountability taken by the institute for the student’s success in the certification exam & in finding a job will increase the chances of success.
Where will this program be available?
The program will initially be launched in Mumbai and then be extended to Pune.
When will this program be launched?
We expect to announce details of the program by end of November 2013.
What are the courses that are being offered through this program?
The program will include courses in the areas of IT& ITES, Retail, Construction, Banking & Financial Services, Travel & Tourism and Automobile.
Which are the Institutes that will participate in this program?
BARTI will empanel a set of institutes accredited with recognised bodies and meeting performance criteria as defined for the program.
Who is eligible for this program?
a. The program is only open to members from Scheduled Castes who are resident of Maharashtra state and are between 18 to 30 years of age.
b. Specific courses may however have additional qualification criteria.
What are the terms & conditions applicable for the students in this program?
a. The voucher will be valid for a period of 3-6 months (depending on the course duration) from the date of issue. It will be non-transferable nor encashable.
b. At the time of allotment of the voucher, candidate will sign an undertaking that they will meet the attendance & performance criteria defined for the program.
How can I apply?
Details of the application process, course & institutes, eligibility criteria per course, course fees etc. will be announced by October 2013 in local newspapers. You will be required to fill in 3 preferences of course-institute combination.
What is the process for the application?
a. You will have to appear for a Career Mela which will be conducted across Mumbai in the month of October & November.
b. You will be required to present all the required documents e.g. mark sheets, caste certificate, domicile certificate, residence proof, photo identity etc. and fill the application form on the same with 3 preferences of course-institute combination.
What is the duration of the courses?
The course duration is from 3 to 6 months.
What happens after successful completion of the training?
a. The institute will make its best efforts to help you secure a placement opportunity in the sector in which you have completed the training.
b. The role will depend on your qualifications and performance in the course.
