The Centre for Civil Society (CCS) has partnered with South Asia Youth Summit (SAYS), which is being organized by the Liberal Youth South Asia (LYSA) and hosted by Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) at the Constitution Club, New Delhi on the 24 and 25 November 2008.

You are cordially invited to an exciting session on Quality Education for All: Choice & Competition organized by the Centre for Civil Society’s flagship project, the School Choice Campaign.

The session will comprise of interactive panel discussions with experts from the fields of education and public policy. Prominent author Dr Jishnu Das, Senior Economist at The World Bank and a Visiting Scholar at The Center for Policy Research, New Delhi will speak on Empirical Evidence on School Choice: Case study of Pakistan and noted liberal thinker and Former Professor of Economics at Michigan University Dr Parth J Shah on School Vouchers: Right to Education of Choice respectively. Prof P V Indiresan, Former Director of IIT Madras and a School Choice Ambassador who has also been honored with a Padma Bhushan in 2000 will be moderating the session.

About School Choice Campaign

The School Choice Campaign (SCC) was launched in 2007 and is a campaign to bring about the much-needed reforms in the system of school education in India today using the three pronged approach of Education Vouchers, Regulatory Reforms and Encouraging Edupreneurs. School Choice is a policy reform idea developed to increase the involvement of parents in responsibly schooling their children by giving them ownership of the task. Based on education vouchers as a mode of funding for the schooling of needy children, School Choice is also designed to reduce disparity in the quality of schooling offered by the government and increase transparency and efficiency. Having researched extensively the many ways in which School Choice ideas have been used to meet different goals internationally, CCS is promoting it as a viable solution for the problems we are facing today in our attempt to educate all our children.

About SAYS

The Summit will provide a platform for youth in the age group of 18-30 from all over South Asia to interact, debate and understand various issues confronting the region from a liberal perspective. Over the two-day schedule, the delegates would be exposed to a variety of simulations, discussions and debates leading to the Summit Declaration and Plan of Action for the next year.
