Dr Shashi Tharoor to address the conference ‘Liberalism in India’ and pay tribute to the liberal giant, SV Raju. Surjit Bhalla, R Jagannathan, J P Narayan, Jaithirth Rao to present papers on reservations, religious freedom, decentralization. Centre for Civil Society is glad to extend this invitation to you for the conference on ‘Liberalism in India: Past, Present and Future’ – A tribute to S V Raju, on 20 November 2015 at Mantra, The Park Hotel, 15, Parliament Street, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Raju was one of India’s liberal giants, and his passing earlier this year was a huge loss for the liberty movement in India. To honour his memory, and celebrate his commitment to creating a freer India, Centre for Civil Society and Friedrich Naumann Foundation is organising an academic conference where key liberal voices in India will present papers on the past, present and future of Indian Liberalism. These essays will be published in the form a Festschrift on Raju’s anniversary next year. This is a part of CCS’ initiative IndianLiberals.in, our effort to help preserve often unknown but a very rich Indian liberal tradition and understand the relevance of the writings in today’s context. Speakers presenting papers include Surjit Bhalla, R Jagannathan, Parth J Shah, J P Narayan, Nitin Pai, Jaithirth Rao, Seetha and Barun Mitra. Gurcharan Das, Swaminathan Aiyar, Arvind Virmani, Geeta Gouri, Sadanand Dhume, Subir Gokarn and Sushant Singh will be discussing and critiquing the above papers. Your presence at this important event will be very encouraging and it will be great if you can join us for the conference. |
