President, Chintan
Dr. Arvind Virmani is president of the nonprofit organisation Chintan, member of RBI Technical Advisory Committee on monetary policy and nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Previously, Virmani was executive director at the International Monetary Fund and distinguished senior fellow in the School of Public Policy at George Mason University. He has been an advisor to the Indian government at the highest levels for 25 years, serving as chief economic advisor, ministry of finance and principle advisor of the Planning Commission. During this period he advised on a host of economic policy reforms, including numerous policy papers/notes, and served as chair of committees on public debt management and customs duty reform. Virmani also served as chief executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). He has published journal articles and book chapters in the areas of macroeconomics, growth and finance, international trade & tariffs and international relations.
