'Autodriver' nominated to be screened at 12th Jeevika: Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival

Imphal, October 01 2015: Manipuri filmmaker Meena Longjam's documentary film "Autodriver" has been nominated to be screened at the 12th Jeevika: Asia Livelihood Documentary Festival 2015 on October 30, 31 and November 1, at Siri Fort Audi III, New Delhi.

This year the festival received 115 entries from students and professional filmmakers.

The screening committee had nominated 19 films for the Jury evaluation.

"Autodriver" is a documentary film that depicts the life of Laibi, a woman auto driver based in Imphal city.

In order to support an ailing husband and education of her two sons, she took up this profession defying traditional social restrictions.

Starting off as a daily wager in a brick farm where she earned only 60 rupees for loading 1000 bricks, she now has to face the discrimination of passengers who shun woman auto drivers.

The documentary film was made by Meena Longjam who has a Master's Degree from Madras Christian College.

"Autodriver" was part of a project development workshop organized by Documentor, Kolkata in association with TC Foundation Manipur and mentored by international award winning filmmakers.

Autodriver is her debut film.
